Kathleen Lynagh is the creative designer for Kathleen Lynagh Designs. Launched in May 1995, Kathleen began with a line of jewelry based on Mario Botta's architecture of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art building for their Museum Store. Ms. Lynagh has since created several other lines. Most of her work is sculpted from solid wax blocks, cast in metal, then finished by hand.

Kathleen's designs are fresh, unique, and sometimes whimsical. She has a special talent for designing florals, and having the components cast in metal allows her to create flower petals, twigs, and vines as they appear in nature. Her design ideas and sense of style are the basis of her contemporary jewelry.

Pendant and earrings are cast and hand-fabricated from matte finished sterling silver and set with 6.5mm black freshwater pearls. Earrings have handmade sterling silver earwires. Pendant is suspended on a 16" long sterling silver chain.

Kathleen takes inspiration from architecture, a love of history, and simple forms. When designing a piece, she combines these elements with visual balance and a use of positive and negative space. Her work is often made in limited editions and frequently features the rich colors of 18k gold, sterling silver, pearls, and semiprecious gemstones.

Lynagh begins her design process with large free-form sketches. Once she has narrowed the focus for an individual design, she begins to sculpt it in wax. She uses bench tools and hand files to create the model. The individual components of the model are cast in precious metals, then assembled and finished by hand.
Kathleen's Pod Line is based on organic forms and seed pods found throughout the Bay area. The Radial Line is based on textures and smooth forms in metal, and the KL Line consists of limited edition pieces, which integrate sculptural forms into the designs.
Designer Bio
A native of Philadelphia, Kathleen received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from Beaver College. Her second job as a graphic designer brought was with the Hillier Group, a highly respected architectural firm, where she was promoted to Senior Graphic Designer and Associate. While working for the Hillier group, she was selected to participate in a unique program in Switzerland sponsored by the Yale School of Design, where she studied identity, color theory, sculpture, typography, and photography. Since that time she has devoted all of her attention to jewelry design.
Although Kathleen has created jewelry since she was very young, she had no formal training until she attended the Studio Art Center International (SACI) in Florence, Italy, in the fall of 1990. She then continued her studies at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, PA. After Moving to the San Francisco Bay area in the summer of 1991, she began to design and sell high-end custom made jewelry for Pave, a Bay area jewelry studio. Kathleen is presently based in the San Diego area.
