However, it's his own romance that has most inspired the Verragio collections. Barry first learned the craft of creating rings as an apprentice. To enhance his natural designing abilities, Barry Verragio studied at the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Having mastered ring design, he worked for several years in the jewelry industry. Then, he decided to propose to Tanya, the love of his life. To make a ring that represented how he felt, Barry invented a new technique - the Lumino Setting - that suspends the diamond above the ring.

The Lumino Setting
Four high prongs elevate the central stone above the rest of the band and setting, allowing the maximum amount of light to enter the ring and enhance its beauty. This minimally covered but fully secured design helps accentuate the diamond's shape and enhance its color and clarity for a truly stunning appearance. The diamonds are exposed on all sides to light, and in some rings even the side and accent stones are suspended in modified Lumino settings for maximum brilliance.

Tanya accepted his proposal and adored her ring. Barry recalls, "When you see that type of reaction, you know it's more than an engagement ring, it's a commitment." So thrilled with Tanya's joy and her friends' praise of the ring, Barry decided to start his own company, Verragio, based on the one-of-a-kind ring he'd created for Tanya.
Barry and Tanya have now been married for over ten years and have two young boys. His marriage remains his primary inspiration for new designs.
